The Inventor Behind the Protocol
Firas Mazloum is the inventor of the G4 SBUS protocol — a proprietary open-standard communication platform that powers the entire Smart G4 ecosystem of 360+ products.
With a deep background in electrical engineering and building automation, Firas identified a critical gap in the market: professional-grade smart building systems were prohibitively expensive and locked into proprietary ecosystems.
His answer was the sBUSPro protocol — an open, affordable, and fully interoperable platform that gives integrators, developers, and building owners the freedom to build truly intelligent spaces without vendor lock-in.
Under his leadership, Smart Group G4 has grown from a startup into a globally recognised brand, with deployments in luxury hotels, smart cities, hospitals, stadiums, and residential complexes across five continents.
Key Milestones
Established Smart Group G4 in California, USA — beginning a 40+ year journey in smart building automation.
Digitcom Smarthome established in Dubai, UAE on Sheikh Zayed Road — marking Smart G4's first presence in the Middle East and a major step toward global expansion.
Established R&D operations in UAE and Germany in partnership with Pruessen at Seeshaupt, Germany — focused on lighting control and building automation based on bus technology.
Created the first SBUS Protocol and began product testing of SBUS technology.
Launched Generation 1 SBUS — the first commercial deployment of the open-protocol smart building platform.
Joint venture formed between Smarthome Group (SBUS) and HDL Hedong Lighting — a DMX stage lighting specialist — to manufacture Smarthome and Hotel Controls using wired SBUS (Smartbus).
HDL and Smarthome (then known as Smart-HDL) cancelled the joint venture and discontinued the SmartBUS product brand. Smart Group G4 simultaneously released Generation 3 SBUS with major advances in device intelligence and energy management.
Firas Mazloum established a new factory and alliance — Smart Electronics Industry (Dongguan Shima) in China — to produce the Smart G4 Royal brand, expanding manufacturing capacity and global reach.
Launched Generation 4 — the sBUS G4 platform — with 80+ products at launch, growing to 360+ products by 2016, with full KNX and BACnet compatibility.
TIS was created by Turath Mazloum as a second brand for the same SBUS technology — a new marketing face for the same proven open-protocol platform.
Commenced Generation 5 SBUS testing — the next evolution with advanced AI integration and enhanced energy intelligence.
